And here is a pen and ink fractal
Fractal art is a very versatile art form that encompasses styles such as abstract modern art through to photographic 3D digital realism. The shapes can be rough and angular, with solid patches of colour. They can also be smooth and polished with sophisticated lighting effects. There can be textural effects, as though paint was layered onto a canvas. There can be much line, or very little to no line at all as in the case where the image is blurred and fluffy. Images can use millions of colours or just one, and range from highly complicated to very simple. So really, fractal art has something for everybody! Fractal art can be used as a communications medium. The mood of the work and the title invite contemplation. Fractals can be serene or jarring. The main thing is that they should intrigue and entertain.
From the technical point of view, the geometric forms of fractals are rooted firmly in mathematics. The shapes range from classical circles and spheres to unusual constructs that have no formal name. The colouring of fractals is individual to the artist and is a matter of personal taste and the effect desired. Fractals can be imported into graphics programs that can post-process by adding sheens and lens flares, and blending other images, fractal or not, onto the original image. It all depends on what the artist wants to do, what he wants to show you, what he thinks is worth your time to view.

"how" often affects "what" we see. - David Hockney
"I think a painter looking at a painting sees
the image, but they also see how the image was
constructed." - Chuck Close
"I think you have to control the materials to an extent, but it's important to let the materials have a kind of power for themselves; like the natural power of gravity, if you are painting on a wall, it makes the paint trickle and it drips; there is no reason to fight that." - Keith Haring
"My contribution to the world is my ability to draw. I will draw as much as I can for as many people as I can for as long as I can. Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times. It brings together man and the world. It lives through magic." - Keith Haring
"I paint artists whom I admire. I paint
their pictures, their work as painters, and their
portraits too. But oddly enough, each of these
portraits ends up as a picture of a woman with
blonde hair. I myself have never been able to
work out why this happens." - Georg Baselitz
"You can't be at the pole and the equator at the same time. You must choose your own line, as I hope to do, and it will probably be color." - Vincent van Gogh
"One day it will have to be officially admitted
that what we have christened reality is an even
greater illusion than the world of dreams." - Salvador Dali
"The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection." - Michelangelo Buonarroti

I once operated a Fractal Art website called "Fractal Alhambra". The site is currently archived. One day, I may restore the full Fractal Alhambra, for now this site has some representative works plus newer fractal galleries.
For fun, here is a fractal music MP3: Fractal Sounds.
